Several WMI numbers can be assigned to one manufacturer at once, while it is forbidden to assign the same number to another manufacturer until 30 years have passed since the date of the last use of this number by the previous manufacturer.
Each geographical zone on Earth has several symbols:
from A to H — Africa;
from J to R - Asia;
from S to Z - Europe;
from 1 to 5 - North America;
from 6 to 7 - Oceania;
from 8 to 9 — South America;
The second character, which is responsible for the country code, is most often used together with the first character of the code to avoid repetition and misunderstanding.
By the combination of the first three characters, you can determine the factory where the car was produced.
The VDS part is the symbols from the 4th to the 8th, which are used to determine the characteristics of the car and the type of vehicle:
model line, body type, engine type,steering wheel position,power system and transmission type,drive,etc.
Each manufacturer has its own unique set of parameters, so it is quite problematic to provide some specific data on specific symbols.
The VIS part of the VIN code from 10 to 17 characters is responsible for other features of the car. Note that there are no strict standards for the VIS part of the code, which means that, depending on the manufacturer and region, various nuances may appear in the designation.
